The Story

The storied 10th Mountain Division of the United States Army was originally commissioned as the 10th Light Alpine in 1943. Initially conceived by Charles Minot Dole, President of the National Ski Patrol, and trained at Camp Hale, Colorado USA under the direction of mountaineer Jim Whitaker, the first American to summit Mount Everest. The 10th was the first elite skiing force of its kind, focused upon winter and mountain combat during WWII.

Contributing to the end of the war through victories achieved in the Italian Alps and amidst harsh, snow-filled terrain, the 10th Mountain Division’s intense requirements for protection and performance lead to the War Department’s technical design and development of the Alpine Anorak as its standard issue “jacket.”

A timeless, tested, and authentic winter garment, the Alpine Anorak is designed to deliver exceptional quality and comfort while upholding the classic alpine traditions of the past.

Forged Performance

Constructed of a fortified British Millerain waxed canvas exterior and internal 10k/10k waterproof membrane, the Alpine Anorak delivers traditional mountain protection through the fusion of classic garment design and first class natural materials.

Built to Last

The Alpine Anorak was designed to last for years, in the hopes that the piece will begin to feel like an old friend. Waxed canvas ages beautifully, becoming patinaed, textured, and relaxed, holding onto memories of ski trips past long after the snow has melted.

Too warm to rest yet.

Fit and finish is superb. It’s about as thick as I expected. More insulation that a true shell, but not as much as a proper downhill ski coat. Looking forward to texting it out this winter.

Perfect fit

Superb quality, materials and stitching. I am 5’6 and 145 pounds. Typically a medium is too large and sleeves too long.. Smalls can be too restrictive, but this jacket is a perfect fit, with some room. This rarely happens, so much appreciated. Highly recommend.
