THE STORY
Alpinist have long embraced the cold confines and variable atmosphere of the mountains since the Golden Age of first ascents dawned on the mid-late 19th century. However, such an embrace required then as it does today an assemblage of garments designed to accommodate the changing terrain from approach to ascent as well as
inconsistent weather often mixed of wet can cold forms of precipitation. As such, ski mountaineers of the late 1800’s and early 20th century, relied on durable, hardwearing, and protective outerwear originally crafted of gabardine, a worsted mix of cotton. Often worn in concert with classic knitwear or sherpa-like lambswool garments, the jackets, parkas, and anoraks accompanying early mountain & winter adventurers acted as windbreakers while guarding the use from sleet and snow.
